A lot of Singularitarians are wack jobs, but that doesn't mean their ideas are bad. A lot of scientists and mathematicians are also crazy/ just plain weird, but I still trust their research. If the ideas of the sigularity are so bad, why do the opponents so often resort ad homenin? Yes, the overwhelming majority of society doesn't believe in the singularity, but the overwhelming majority of people on earth don't believe in evolution and do believe in an all powerful, invisible man in the sky with six pack abs who will smite you if you don't worship him - but he loves you. Most scientists also are very skeptical, but that's because most scientists are conservative for all predictions. Twenty five years ago most scientists would have scoffed at the idea of iphones. Many REALLY smart people (i'm talking about some of the SMARTEST scientists here) do believe in the singularity and think it is between 30 and 60 years away.

To anyone who doesn't share the twisted ideologies of Singularity freaks like Kurzweil, which is the overwhelming majority of the population, his/their reasoning IS crazy and despirate. I used to be closely associated with the Singularity Institute, until it finally dawned on me what a bunch of whack jobs their members truely are. Being that the overwhelming majority of the scientific community wants nothing to do with them, it looks like I'm not the only one either! The Singularity movement is NOT a scientific movement; it is a pseudo-religious/pseudo-scientific cult which, unfortunately, has hijacked the whole futurist movement!

Hopefully it will be preserved in torrent-land forever:

Although, the article is kind of disappointing. It focuses on the man instead of his insights, which are much more interesting. Like most journalists, the author doesn't understand the reasoning behind the predictions, nor does he make any effort to remedy that. Rather, he uses the article to make Kurzweil look crazy and desperate.
