		<description>I&#039;ve always been curious about the fact that even though Ford model T from 1908 had a &#039;flexifuel&#039; engine and Mr. Porsche designed the first hybrid car in 1900 (Lohner-Porsche Mixte Hybrid), only now we are beginning to see some advanced 2nd gen biofuels, like the ethanol produced from waste by ST1 in Finland. Better late than never, no?

Genes are not really like lego blocks, their total effect is based on many factors inside a cell. It is tempting to predict that we can just find a gene that does X, insert it into an artificial organism, and produce massive amount of X. This may be true with single chemicals, like insulin or certain biofuels, but more complicated applications (those involving two or more genes) will likely take a long time. Even in five to ten years, we will still be learning a lot about creating life from scratch (a process that takes evolution millions of years to get right). It&#039;s more like transcribing the human genome: technically, we have all the information before us but it will take a long time before we are able to understand it fully and then be able to turn out applications from it.</description>
