That’s an understandable trend for an institution that hopes to educate entrepreneurs and leaders about the possibilities of exponential growth and accelerating technologies. Now, 80 students will be trek out to NASA’s AMES campus in Silicon Valley from June 19th to August 28th to experience cutting edge lectures, workshops, tours of nearby labs, a Zero-G suborbital flight, and sneak peeks at NASA technology. Those interested can sign up through March 15 at the SU website. If the $25k price tag is daunting, there are some partial and full scholarships available. Like last year, students will join together to create a final project that addresses the grand challenges facing humanity: poverty, energy, environment, illness, etc. SU realizes that the accelerating technologies we develop today will affect the lives of billions in the years to come. A billion is a good start, but proliferation of such ideas going more to the private sector than to the Open World, just shows these companies lack of Fresh Talent, and the inner sharing of visions; so they desire them from the outside; which without saying is an innovative idea For them, to avoid costly investment in part of the formula. I applaud this and yet with some apprehension see this dying within a few years, but then growth is always riddled with pains. Last word, good ideas above, but some large holes in a few, but great ideas none the less. I can see much more done! Last year’s class produced several startups including Civiguard and Gettaround which we’ve covered before. Now, SU seems to have undergone a bit of exponential growth of its own. They’ve doubled to 80 students and we’re likely to see 10 to 15 startups emerge from GSP 10. Each of these prospective businesses is aimed at improving the world. The challenge of helping 1 billion people in 10 years was taken very seriously. Every project held the potential to affect the world if successful. The SU GSP ‘10 Students dreamed big. Occasionally too big, perhaps. Some of the projects you’ll hear about in the videos below are completely reliant upon technologies that have yet to been developed in marketable ways.
