There are whispers of truth in your analogy. However, I think you are dead wrong about anti middle-eastern sentiment declining. It is very much alive and well. And anti-china sentiment hasn't really risen or fallen, they are just getting to be more of a player and so we pay attention to their hi-jinks more. I think if anything is going on it is that editors and publishers sense people are rather bored of middle eastern affairs domination world news and have latched on to news from China to freshen up interest.

Anti-China sentiment in the media rising, anti-middle-eastern sentiment declining. We have always been at war with east asia, we have always been at peace with eurasia?

@VerGreeneyes
Don't be too pessimistic about your paper. The internet is the great equalizer when it comes to publishing. I'll check out Matheson's paper, the online abstract seems interesting.

And thanks for reading.

In some ways, perhaps it's good to see China being the first to do this. Perhaps this will make people, most of whom are already against China's censorship, wake up to these dangers in general.

After your post about Project INDECT, I decided to write a paper about the right to privacy, and the various ways in which the project will inevitably violate it. Although my paper won't be published (as I am only just starting out as a student), it did end up giving me, and some of my fellow students, a better idea of just what privacy is, and why a Right to Privacy is as fundamental as the Right to Person, the Right to Liberty and the Right to Property.

The reason that those questions are important is because Privacy often feels like a very.. scattered concept - and that's because it is. If you're interested in reading more about this, I suggest you check out David Matheson's 2008 paper entitled "A Distributive Reductionism about the Right to Privacy". Although the title is somewhat daunting, the paper itself is very readable, and it shows very objectively and clearly why Privacy is (or should be considered) fundamental.
