Andrew Biggin

I am a professor of geomagnetism and teach geophysics at the University of Liverpool, heading up the geomagnetism laboratory there. Before taking on my academic position in 2014, I was a NERC Advanced Fellow at Liverpool for five years at Liverpool, and I've also held research positions at Utrecht University, Universite Montpellier II, UNAM (Mexico), and Kingston University. My research focuses on describing and understanding the behavior of the Earth's magnetic field as recorded in rocks and archaeological materials. I have obtained magnetic records from materials ranging in age from the twentieth century to 3.5 billion years old and from six continents. These have been applied to problems in geophysics, geology, and archaeology.
