I work on theory and computation in high-energy astrophysics, connecting models to astrophysical data as directly as possible. Most of my work has concentrated on gamma-ray bursts, cosmic explosions caused by colliding neutron stars or imploding extremely massive stars. In particular, I study the properties of the relativistic outflows that these explosions generate and how to understand their broadband radiation from radio to gamma rays. The methods employed by myself and my collaborators range from parallel relativistic hydrodynamics simulations to Bayesian statistics of model fitting to data.
Further research interests include related topics such as blazars, stellar tidal disruption events, and microquasars.
