
Wei Xing
Dr. Wei Xing is an assistant professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Sheffield, bringing over 15 years of international research experience to his work. After earning his PhD in engineering from the University of Warwick in 2017, he began his career as an assistant professor at Beihang University.
A specialist in intelligent manufacturing and the industrialization of artificial intelligence, his research is particularly focused on applications within electronic design automation (EDA). His extensive publication record includes top-tier conferences and journals like AAAI, NeurIPS, DAC, and ICCAD.
Through his active participation in major international projects, including those funded by DARPA and EPSRC, Dr. Xing has developed cutting-edge AI-driven tools. His pioneering digital twin technology has been adopted by a US DARPA project and successfully integrated into a major tech company, serving as the computational backbone for a significant portion of their revenue. This work was honored with the second prize at the 2022 Beijing Science and Technology Progress Awards.
He has been widely recognized for his contributions, most notably with a best paper award nomination at the prestigious ICCAD 2023. His most recent work on large language model-based engineering optimization was named a top 10 finalist for the highly selective 2025 UK Manchester Prize, a major innovation award that has already secured £1.6 million in funding for his research.
