Did You See That Woman…Wait…She’s A Robot!

Check out the HRP-4C robot, one of the first humanoid robots to boldly sidestep the typical transformer look, instead posing as an attractive manga style woman.  Is anyone else having flashbacks of the movie Blade Runner where robots are indistinguishable from humans?  The HRP-4c robot is slated to strut down the catwalk March 23 as a model in a Tokyo fashion show.

This girlie HRP-4C robot is a continuation of a line of impressive HRP robots from Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, some of which we have reported on earlier.  It is interesting to note that even though she looks quite life-like, the creators claim they intentionally avoided making her even more life-like since this can make humans uncomfortable.

Some excerpts from the Associated Press:

The girlie-faced humanoid with slightly oversized eyes, a tiny nose and a shoulder length hair boasts 42 motion motors programmed to mimic the movements of flesh-and-blood fashion models.

“Hello everybody, I am cybernetic human HRP-4C,” the futuristic fashionista said, opening its media premiere at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology outside Tokyo.

Ok, on with the videos already:
