Alex Veen is an employment relations researcher with a keen interest in the future of work, understanding how technology is shaping and resulting in new forms of work organization. He is intrigued how organizations engage with, and manage, their workforces and how this is mediated by technology and regulation; working at the intersection of human resource management, industrial relations and industrial sociology. His platform-work research agenda interrogates different facets of app-based gig work, ranging from worker experiences to institutional responses. In addition, he also conducting more traditional industrial relations research, specifically focused on management’s industrial agreement-making strategies and tactics. He has published his work in leading industrial relations, human resource management and sociology journals.
